Thinking of getting a driver’s license and don’t know where to start? Here are a few tips from our driving instructors at Global Driving School.

First and foremost you will need to sit your Theory Exam before starting driving lessons with an ADI (Approved Driving Instructor).

There are various locations all over Ireland where you can book your test. You will be able to select your test centre at the online booking service.

Currently the fee for the Theory Exam for Category BW (Car/Tractor & Work Vehicles) or AM (Motorcycle/Moped) is €45.00.

Once you’ve made your booking and need to reschedule or cancel, bear in mind the request should be made with at least 5 business day notice. The computerized exam lasts for 45 minutes. There are 40 randomly selected questions in total , from which you must correctly answer at least 35 in order to pass. After your exam you will be handed a score report.

If you are successful on your test you can apply for your learner permit at the NDLS (National Driver Licence Service) nationwide. In case you fail your test you can re-apply after 3 business days and there is no limit on how many times you can do your exam. Your Driver Theory Test Certificate is only valid for 2 years from the date of your test.

If you have not submitted an application to the National Driver Licence Service (NDLS) centres for your first learner permit within 2 years of your test, you will have to sit and pay for the test again.
